OTHER ACTIVITIES
Beyond coffee farming, we engage in complementary agricultural and community-focused activities that strengthen sustainability, productivity, and rural livelihoods.
Livestock Rearing (Cattle Farming)
We rear cattle primarily to produce organic manure used in our coffee fields. This improves soil structure, enhances nutrient availability, and reduces dependence on chemical inputs. Livestock farming also contributes to food security and additional income streams for the estate.
Beekeeping & Honey Production
Muhigira Coffee Estate practices beekeeping as a sustainable agricultural activity. Beehives placed within the estate promote pollination while producing natural honey, packaged under local initiatives such as Banta Natural Honey. Beekeeping supports environmental conservation and creates additional income opportunities.
Nursery Bed Establishment
We establish and manage coffee nursery beds that supply quality seedlings for estate planting and farmer training programs. Nursery bed management also serves as a training ground for local farmers, youth, and community groups interested in modern coffee establishment techniques.
Irrigation & Water Management
A dedicated on-estate water dam supplies water for irrigation, allowing coffee and other crops to thrive even during dry seasons. This water management system supports consistent production, reduces climate-related risks, and ensures reliable harvests throughout the year.
